Now then we are Ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:20
God has a beautiful and unique call for every believer. I believe that He showed me mine in the 1st grade. I wouldn’t have known in then, but one day God would use my ability to write for His glory. The end of 2022 when I first began to put my writings out there. I didn’t know what to expect. Mostly, it was only family and close friends that would read them. It took me a little while, but I have gotten to a point where I’m ready to give God complete control and let Him work through me as He sees fit. I feel called to write for Him, about Him, and with Him. My prayer is that God would reach even just one person through me, so that others can know the hope, love, and salvation of Jesus Christ.
After some thinking and praying I came to the conclusion that I would call my blog, “His Ambassador Blog.” The name is derived from 2 Corinthians 5:20 which says, “Now then we are Ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.” An Ambassador is a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity or an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country. I love the metaphor of being an Ambassador because I believe that title classifies us as Christians very well. Paul speaks about ambassadors again in Ephesians 6:19-20, “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”
Ambassadors have very important roles and huge responsibilities. No wonder Paul uses this analogy so often. There are three things to keep in mind about being an ambassador:
Firstly, as ambassadors we need to remember that we are not of this world. Our homes are somewhere else. Philippians 3:20 says, “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” When we are adopted into the family of God (Galatians 4:4-5), when are from then on “out of town.” We aren’t permanently home; we’re just passing through. It’s important to remember this truth because we need to remember where we come from. Sometimes, when we forget this, we can end up being too comfortable here, which can hinder our walk and growth in Christ. Going back to the definition of an ambassador, we are in a foreign country, therefore we can’t give into the temptations and lusts of this world because it is temporary, but heaven is forever.
Second, as ambassadors we are representing Jesus Christ. Paul tells the church in Philippi, “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one Spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” (Philippians 1:27) Our lives as Christians should be lived in such a way that others hear about how we are living and working for Christ. Colossians 1:9-10 tells us that we should walk worthy of the Lord. In all that we do, others should see Jesus in us. We are in a foreign country representing the One who sent us. This can be difficult to achieve if we forget that this world is not our home. But we can do this better by reading about Jesus and His commands.
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one Spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.
Philippians 1:27
Finally, as ambassadors we have a mission. Ambassadors are not sent to another country simply to be there, they are sent with tasks, goals, and a mission. Paul says that he is to open his mouth boldly so that he can make known the mystery of the gospel. Jesus issued the Great commission to His disciples in Matthew 28 saying that we are to go and make disciples of all nations. Our job as Christians is not only to represent Christ well and grow in Him, but also to share the good news with others.
Ambassadors are not sent to another country simply to be there, they are sent with tasks, goals, and a mission.
As ambassadors, we are sent from somewhere else, to represent Christ and spread the gospel. How we do this will look different depending on each believer. But regardless of whether God has showed you your calling, you are still called and able to share the good news. Remember your mission, remember your goal, and remember your Savior.
